The earliest Neolithic writings known to men are dated to 6th millennium BC, which means it was at least 8,000 years ago. However, writing started to pick up steam around 3,200 BC (or roughly 5,200 years ago) when it had become a necessity to keep society’s records (transactions, laws, etc).
Writers have clearly existed from a very long time, and people still have a hard time comprehending, and acknowledging it as a real profession, and usually view it as a ‘hobby.’
The first question you get when you introduce your profession is “but, what’s your real job?”
It’s almost as if the people find it unbelievable that you can make a living out of being a writer. Some are brazen, some are rude and most of them are ignorant, which could get unbearable.

Do you really expect us to read all the books published?
Don’t ever tell a writer that their job is easy, and you could do it, when you, whose most words ever jotted on a paper was for a crossword puzzle.
Do you also walk into random clinics and assume they can treat you just because they’re all doctors?
There is a huge spectrum of writers, not all of us are writing books, some of us are bloggers, technical writers, copy writers etc. Don’t assume we all write novels.
